GitHub's Octoverse 2026 report (28 October) says the order held in 2026: TypeScript first, Python second, JavaScript third. TypeScript added 3.62 million monthly contributors between September 2025 and September 2026.

The agent figure

In repositories with an observed agent signal, TypeScript was the primary language in 35% of them, compared with 24% without one. GitHub writes that agents appear to favour a narrower set of languages, TypeScript chief among them.

What I take from it

If your frontend is still plain JavaScript, that is one more reason to plan the move to TypeScript.

I post short notes like this on LinkedIn.

Cream card: "TypeScript is still GitHub's #1 language." Where agents work, TypeScript leads.
