Itsybitsy: a recycling rewards app for Pakistan
People filled an Itsybitsy bag with recyclables, handed it to a representative and earned points to cash in for deals. I co-founded the company and built the mobile app, backend and website.
Context
Household recycling in Pakistan was almost non-existent. Itsybitsy made it simple and rewarding: register in the app, collect recyclable items in an Itsybitsy bag, hand it to a representative and get points for every contribution.
My role
Co-founder responsible for all technology: the mobile app, the backend and the website.
What I did
- Built a cross-platform mobile app with Apache Cordova: points balance, deals, milestones, eco tips and an eco calculator that shows the impact of each recycling activity.
- Wrote the PHP and MySQL backend for users, collections, points and deals.
- Designed and built the company website.
Outcome
- First place at the Plan9–Acumen Launchpad for Social Entrepreneurship 2014.
- Selected for Google Developers Launchpad and Microsoft BizSpark, and invited to Web Summit 2014 in Dublin.
