Findbar: instant site search for Wix stores
A Wix app that replaces the built-in site search with an inline search bar and live suggestions across products, blog posts, pages and CMS collections.
Context
Wix’s built-in site search is poorly rated by merchants: it opens a pop-up, misses content and has no instant suggestions.
My role
Founder and sole engineer.
What I did
- Built the backend in TypeScript with Fastify, Zod validation and one Meilisearch index per store.
- Kept each index fresh within seconds through signed Wix webhooks, with a nightly reconcile and page re-crawl as a safety net.
- Hardened the crawler against server-side request forgery and oversized responses, and rate-limited every route per IP and per store.
- Built lightweight web-component widgets for the search bar and results page, and a merchant dashboard with settings and search insights.
- Connected Free and Pro plans to Wix billing, and delete all of a store’s data when it uninstalls the app.
Outcome
- In beta at findbar.app, covered by over 200 automated tests.
